You can start the VR/AR view at any of viewing spots in Carnuntum. The map shows you where these spots are located. The viewing spots have information panels that contain the app logo. Scan these panels to start the view!

Explore ancient finds on special theme tours

Select one of the two special theme tours: “Daily life and living situation” or “The Favor of the Gods”. If you are close to an object during your walk through the Roman city quarter, a note to that effect appears on your smart phone. You can examine the 3-D scan of the object in all its facets at the actual place it was found and use a drop-down menu to obtain detailed information about this find. Daily life and living situation

Wall frescoes and floor mosaics, water lines and heating systems are conveniences and accomplishments indicating the high standard of living in the Rome Empire and attest to the personal prosperity of the people who once had their homes in the civilian city quarter of Carnuntum. Everyday objects left behind in these houses tell us their stories more than 1,700 years later and bring to life the everyday living situation of the ancient citizens of Carnuntum.

The Favor of the Gods

The Romans worshiped a multitude of deities and ascribed various spheres of action to them. Religious ceremonies dominated all central events in people’s personal lives, such as birth, marriage and death. Superstitions and magic also played a major role in Roman society.
