Festival of Late Antiquity: August 13 and 14, 2022

The Festival of Late Antiquity in the Roman city of Carnuntum is a special class event, in this form it is unique in the world.

Historians and Roman lovers can rejoice: On August 13 and 14, 2022, the Festival of Late Antiquity will once again take place in the Roman city of Carnuntum. The festival is unique in this form worldwide. Participants from all over Europe will turn back time by 1700 years and open a window into that era, which will be shown with the reconstructed houses in the Roman Quarter.

Unlike many historical events, aspects are not shown here, but in the Roman Quarter of Carnuntum a real day actually "happens", where citizens go about their work, soldiers go about their daily lives and history takes its course in miniature. You are an invisible bystander, you can follow the inhabitants into their houses or watch the goings-on on the street. And, of course, you will also see some other person of world fame. Maybe even the emperor...

Program and children's activities

Of course, there will also be designated program points for all visitors and for the younger visitors of Carnuntum. Throughout the day, late antique life will be demonstrated with crafts, pastimes, food preparation and combat training. Special interludes and activities are planned throughout the day in the houses in the district and the camps on the site.

For children, various activities will be offered during this late antique bustle: A story time with the Alemanni, Roman children's games and drill training with the military units round out the program for families to enjoy a varied outing.
