House of Lucius
The House of Lucius provides a clear picture of the standard of life the middle class enjoyed in Carnuntum. The layout of the house and the solid furnishings and interior details reflect the considerable prosperity many citizens of the city had achieved. A kitchen with a stove, a living room equipped with underfloor heating and a commercial space provide insights into the everyday life of a Roman family.
The name of the house stems from an inscription referring to a Lucius Maticeius Clemens that was found in earlier archaeological research on site. The House of Lucius was the first structure in Carnuntum to be reconstructed at its original site applying the methods of experimental archeology.
