At the artisans’ stands, the festival now begins to come alive. The first highlight gives you insights into medicine in ancient times. The focus is on medicine among the ancient Romans and Celts. Incidentally, an artisan stand is exactly where medicine belonged back then. Medical practitioners were considered to be artisans in ancient times. Herbal medicine was a much greater part of patient treatment then than it is today. However, people in ancient times did have an array of surgical instruments for various treatments. Here, interested festival goers gain fascinating insights into the medical care of the Roman population, above all the soldiers and gladiators, of course. Some of the treatments seem downright modern.
