The 2025 network meeting brought together experts in archaeology, heritage conservation, tourism, cultural education, and cultural management, as well as representatives from politics and public administration, to discuss current perspectives on Roman heritage in the Danube region. The focus was on the UNESCO World Heritage section of the Danube Limes and new research on the Roman presence along and north of the Danube in Austria and Moravia.

Within the framework of the Interreg projects ROMAN LEGACY and Roman Trails, it became clear how closely research, cultural tourism, and regional development are intertwined. Universities, museums, Roman parks, heritage authorities, tourism organizations, municipalities, and specialized cultural institutions are collaborating to develop a cross-border thematic region centered on Roman heritage.

Presentations and discussions focused, among other things, on UNESCO World Heritage management, current archaeological research, sustainable outreach strategies, and new tourism concepts along the Danube Limes. At the same time, the focus was on issues of shared visibility, modular branding strategies, and innovative outreach formats. The event demonstrated the potential of interdisciplinary networks: diverse perspectives, pooled expertise, and cross-institutional cooperation create the foundation for new approaches to Roman cultural heritage—scientifically, culturally, and in terms of tourism. The goal is to sustainably develop the Danube region as a vibrant cultural and experiential landscape and to highlight the Roman heritage as a defining element of European identity.
