Since 2014, the Roman town of Carnuntum has had its own gladiator troupe. But who are these young men and women? It’s best if they introduce themselves

We are the “Ferocis Apri” gladiator combat group of the Roman town of Carnuntum. Since the spectacular discovery of the gladiator school in 2011, there has been a special focus on the phenomenon of gladiatorial combat, from which this living history group emerged in 2014.

With great dedication, we study historical fighting techniques, train, sweat, and ultimately fight in the arena for glory and honor. We cover all known fighting styles and matchups and adhere to the scholarly standards for source-based depictions of gladiators.

From the very beginning, historically documented female gladiators in Carnuntum fought on equal footing with their male counterparts. Thus, to this day, visitors witness not only men but also women engaged in realistic combat in the arena.

By the way: Our performances are not choreographed show fights, but realistically executed fights using blunted weapons.

We are a proud part of the Roman city, but we also perform outside of it. For booking inquiries, visit us on Instagram.
