World Heritage Day on April 18 and 19
Themed tour “World Heritage in Carnuntum: The Danube Limes”

On the weekend of April 18 and 19, 2026, guided tours focusing on the theme “World Heritage in Carnuntum: The Danube Limes” will take place in the Roman town of Carnuntum to mark World Heritage Day. In addition to the history of the city, the tours will focus in particular on the role of Carnuntum on the Danube Limes. The function of the Danube Limes as a border and the significance of the World Heritage Site today will also be discussed.
Lower Austria Museum Spring on May 10 and 24
On the occasion of Museum Spring in Lower Austria, the Roman town of Carnuntum is offering a special themed event on “Herbs and Medicinal Plants in Antiquity” on May 10 and 24, 2026.
Herbal tour
Discover the Roman herb garden on your tour of Carnuntum and learn about various ancient spices and medicinal plants, as well as their uses and effects.
Tours start at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., last 1 hour, and cost €4.50.
Medicinal plant workshop – Rose
The first part of this workshop invites you to feel your own body through guided bodywork and breathing exercises, to open your senses and thus to encounter nature and culture with openness.
The second part includes an exciting journey of discovery through Carnuntum. Participants will focus on the rose as a Roman medicinal plant and learn about its effects. The workshop will cover both modern applications and ancient medical knowledge. The third part is hands-on, with participants making their own effective product from the plant.
